Whether you are heading to the shore or up the mountains, spending time at the pool or at the golf course, we hope everyone is enjoying these summer days and nights. Some good things have been happening at the Tavern over the past month: great new drink specials, a summer selection of beers and some great new summer food specials from Chef Jeff Smith. His Filet Salad, Scallop Noodle Bowl and Watermelon Feta Salad all have been a hit. Don’t forget that on Tuesdays nights we are doing the “Retro Rib Night” with Jeff’s version of the Broad Axe Baby Back Ribs. Sunday mornings we will have a few brunch items that we are offering. You will receive a free Mimosa with the purchase of one of these breakfast items, so come check them out. We are glad to see that a lot of our VIP Loyalty card members are starting to cash in on the rewards program, with the $25.00 reward coming off their check when they reach the $250 mark. We are also running a promotion on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays - when you bring in a table of six or more and order six large plates you will receive a complementary bottle of wine from our 21 Club! I also want you to know I heard from our acoustical engineers and they have promised me that the sound absorbing panels will be delivered on the 16th. We will have them installed as soon as we get them in. We are sorry about the delay, I know that some of you are waiting to return to a quiet section to dine in, and I will post it as soon as they are installed. Don’t miss our feature on Rachel, our house resident ghost. She has been getting a little feisty lately and having her own little parties on the third floor (Jess, did you do a contract on that?!?!) Spotlight on Rachel

Rachel

It’s been said that a ghost named Rachel has haunted the Broad Axe Tavern over all these years. Stories are told that Rachel was the daughter of one of the owners. She and her family lived on a farm behind the Broad Axe Tavern. A group of guys left the Broad Axe one night after one too many drinks and were taunting her. Fleeing from the inebriated men, she ran into the bathroom of the tavern and she was never seen again. She is said to be most active when there is any sort of construction going on at the Tavern. There are stories of people being pushed down flights of stairs, being knocked over with a tray full of food when nothing was around them. Sightings of Rachel in the 3rd floor windows have been heard from people sitting at the lights on Butler Pike and Skippack Pikes. The bathroom on the first floor is still the same location where Rachel fled to years ago. Make sure when you are in there, you say hello to Rachel!

Featured Recipe – Watermelon Feta Salad

The saltiness of the feta cheese pairs well with the juicy sweetness of watermelon to create a delicious salad that is refreshing on a hot summer evening.

4 Servings:

4 C diced seedless watermelon
½ C crumbled feta cheese
¼ EA small red onion sliced very thin
1 T mint chiffonade
1 T red wine vinegar

  1. Toss all of the ingredients together in a large bowl.
  2. Divide the salad evenly between 4 well chilled salad bowls.
  3. If desired, drizzle with a small amount of pomegranate molasses.
  4. Serve immediately.
